Nikki & Simon: wedding
Hardly a work day.
It’s been a busy couple of days, weddings and pre-wed shoots have filled my weekend. This afternoon I photographed a couple who’s wedding is in August and I was really excited as Arca, their dog was to feature in the shoot. I took Potter along to meet Arca and play and it was a lovely way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon, not many people get to take their dogs along to work. They played madly and it was so lovely to see, Arca is a gorgeous dog and was happy to be followed around by Potter (not that she had much choice!). Here is my instant favourite from the shoot.
Monday
So I think I have recovered from the whole bag stealing experience, now I just have lots of hassle to sort out with insurance companies etc. Anyway here is a snap from Saturday’s wedding reception, which was at the families home so this brother and sister were rolling around on the grass, thankfully it stayed dry all day.
A sad day.
I quite loved my bag. Not because it was just the right size or the right shade of beige but because of what was inside it. This afternoon while parked by a busy path in York I had my car broken in to, and my bag stolen. I feel pretty heart broken, because so much of my heart was carried around in that bag. It was the butterfly broach pinned to the inside pocket, and the polaroid picture of one of my best friends and I strawberry picking last summer. It was the hand written notes I kept in my purse, what felt like the safest place. It wasn’t even so much the words, but the handwriting, the unmistakable way you’d loop your ‘e’ and that black ink. And the note from my mother telling me she was proud of me and loved me folded around a picture of her face taken at a wedding in which she was a bridesmaid in her former years. It was the addresses of people from the past that I only stay in contact with through Christmas cards. And hours earlier I had drawn my rent out of the bank due tomorrow, I still can’t get my head around that one. And my mother had just given me some post that had gone to the house and there was a postcard from one of my friends who lives in London saying, quite simply, she missed me. I planned to prop it against my lamp next to my bed.
Big sigh.
But my gorgeous dog sleeps beside me, thankfully I was walking her at the time. And my phone was in my hand. And my landlord vacuumed my car for me tonight whilst I cried about lost rent. His wife then gave me the keys to her car as they are away all weekend as I couldn’t get the window fixed ahead of tomorrows wedding. And I needed to renew my driving license anyway because the picture was of me when, regrettably, I had a fringe. And the addresses from the past may be be lost but I guess it’s the people of the present that really matter. And yes the handwriting still stings a little and I can’t offer up much of a ‘but’ on that one right now.
*I remember I have a shoot on Tuesday 9th June (Nikki Bailey) and a meeting July 25th (Rachel) but my diary is probably floating in the river so please let me know if I have meetings etc. I know all my weddings so don’t worry about those.
I am tired now, must sleep x
Potter post.
Potter is big. Well to me she is, but while at the beach we met a lady with 2 dalmations, which really were big. It is so exciting to see what she will look like when she is fully grown. Anyway she is fully recovered and now sporting a little fat belly as I had to feed her up after she wasn’t allowed food and got so skinny. She seemed to love the beach, it was a lot cooler which helped as I am not sure she is a big fan of this heat we are having. Her ears seem to fall forward, at first it was just one and now they both seem to do it. She looks so perplexed it makes me laugh.
4 weddings. 4 days.
I am only just surfacing after a crazy weekend of 4 weddings over 4 days. It all ran smoothly apart from having to take Potter to the vets in the middle of the night on the Sunday ahead of a wedding on the Monday. Anyway she is okay now, and back to her usual monkey self. Needless to say I literally have thousands of images to edit but I picked out a few to go with this post. To make up for last weekend we are going to Bamburgh in Northumberland this weekend, I figured the first time Potter sees the beach it should be a good one. This is in my only weekend off until July so I intend to enjoy every moment of it. I will post a Potter post after the weekend of her on the beach, she is so big now. When she was ill she slept in my bed, only the second time since I have had her I might add, but she deserves such attention as she is so good. A bride recommended a place called Pooch Palace where instead of putting the dogs in kennels the dog stays in the home, at a premium price I might add but Potter and I are going up next week to look around. Trusting someone with, what feels like your child is a funny old thing. Someone recently said that I wrap Potter up in cotton wool. ‘Yes’, I said. ‘I do. Tightly’.
Getting away… The Lake District
I love visiting the tea rooms and cafes, and I love driving down the winding roads, and I love eating fish and chips at the edge of Lake Windermere, and I love the scenery, and I love the feeling of space, and I loved watching Potter-a tiny dot against the huge backdrops, and I loved visiting Yew Tree Farm-the place where the film Miss Potter was filmed. I loved eating gingerbread where it originated, and lately everything is so busy and sometimes bigger than me, so I especially loved being somewhere that really was, bigger than me.
Now I must get on, I have a wedding to get to. Nx
Claire & Phil: Wedding
My favourite from a recent wedding, you wouldn’t believe it was pouring with rain while we shot these pictures. All fine here, wishing there were more hours in a day though, time is flying by. Everyday I seem to be telling myself that I need to sort myself out, be a better time keeper-why can’t you finish that novel, run 6 miles, look after Potter, run a business and ponder over the next one (more on that over the summer!)… and eat, sleep, clean the house, make time for friends etc etc-why oh why!!
